How to make Crossed-Heart Fairy Cakes.

They are easy and fun to make!  Look at that!

 Ingredients: {For the cake}100 g self-raising flour, 100 g caster sugar, 100 g butter, 2 eggs, 1/4 teaspoon Vanilla Extract.                                                 {For the Icing} Fondent Icing (which can easily be brought from Sainsbury’s). 

Serves: 12

Apparatus: Mixing Bowl, Electronic Whisk, Sieve, Weighing Machine, Rolling Pin, Knife, Butter-Paper, Fairy-Cake cases, Cake Tin, Spoons, Oven, cooling rack.

Prep. Time : 5-10 minutes.

Cooking time: 10-20minutes.


1) Preheat the oven to Gas 5 or 190*C.

2) Sift the self-raising flour into a mixing bowl.

3) In the same bowl, add the caster sugar, butter, vanilla extract and eggs.

4) Use an electric whisk to mix all the ingredients until it’s soft and creamy. Make sure 

5) Place the cases in the tin.

6) Put the batter in the cases: fill half the case only!

7) Place it in the oven for 10-15 minutes until it’s golden-brown and well risen.

8) After the cake is ready in the oven, make sure you have entered a back of the spoon and poked it right in the centre of the cake to make sure it’s not oogy!

9) Place it on a cooling rack and till then, prepare the icing! (It should cool for about 10-15 minutes.)

For the Icing ()…

1) Take the Fondant (you could pick any colour you like!) and roll it into a ball.

2) Roll it using a rolling pin but before, place it on a butter-paper. 

3) Using a knife, cut it into heart shapes and stripes.!

4) Now, lay it out on your cake.
